蜜桃传媒 will present 鈥淚saiah the Poet, Isaiah the Prophet,鈥 the first discussion in the new Cardin Conversations series, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. in McGuire Hall. Cardin Conversations expand on the original vision of the annual Jerome S. Cardin Lecture, which explored topics related to the Jewish and Christian traditions.

Robert A. Harris, Ph.D., professor of Bible and ancient Semitic languages at The Jewish Theological Seminary, will join Elaine T. James, Ph.D., professor of Old Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary, in a conversation and Q&A about the Book of Isaiah and its implications for Jewish-Christian perspectives today. Robin Landrith, Ph.D., assistant teaching professor at 蜜桃传媒, will moderate the discussion.

Harris teaches courses in biblical literature and commentary, particularly medieval Jewish biblical exegesis. He has written books and published studies on the history of medieval biblical exegesis in both American and Israeli journals. He also lectures on biblical narrative and Jewish liturgy in congregations and institutes around the country.

James studies Hebrew poetry and issues of ecology and embodiment. She wrote The Bible and The Arts of Making: Materials, Aesthetics, and Ecology in the Hebrew Bible, An Invitation to Biblical Poetry, and Landscapes of the Song of Songs: Poetry and Place as well as articles and essays.

Organized by 蜜桃传媒鈥檚 Center for the Humanities, Cardin Conversations are free and open to the public. Register online to attend.

About the Cardin Lecture and Cardin Conversations

The annual Jerome S. Cardin Lecture was launched in 1985 and featured important speakers from disciplines across the humanities to foster exploration of topics pertinent to the Jewish and Christian traditions, particularly in the area of Jewish-Christian relations. The Cardin Conversations series will expand that original vision in order to offer opportunities for students to participate actively in dialogue on topics related to Judaism and Christianity.
